Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra Review, Specifications and Camera Performance

The Galaxy S22 Ultra is Samsung’s ultimate flagship, and apart from the other of this year’s S series, it includes a design and features that are more akin to a Galaxy Note phone. One of most obvious of these is better stylus compatibility, but there’s a lot more to this phone than that.

The first thing to mention is that green model has a turquoise feel to it, like a dark turquoise feel to it, and it has a tinge of blue in it. It’s still green, but it’s not the green you might expect, like army green or anything like that, so keep that in mind right away if you’re going to get the green model.

Another significant improvement over last year’s model is that the S22 Ultra incorporates the pen into the design with a dedicated dock at the bottom. This is a lot more secure, and it means you’ll always have your pen with you, unlike the S21 Ultra, which required you to keep it somewhere else and worry about the dock.

The S22 Ultra is less like a Galaxy S phone and more like a Galaxy Note phone, as it features full IP68 rated ingress protection and is overall quite sturdy with Gorilla Glass VICTUS plus on the back and front.

The AI in the S22 Ultra can now anticipate movements much better. The latency of the Pen has been reduced from nine milliseconds to less than three milliseconds, making it easier to take notes, and the mechanism for translating  handwriting into text has been updated to be even more accurate.

Adding media to notes is nothing new, but now can include a screenshot of an entire web page if you like. This feature isn’t available in all countries, though, because some websites require permissions, and these pop-ups end up in your notes as well.

With this high resolution, content appears sharper, and you also get amazing contrast and deep blacks thanks to the OLED tag. There’s also HDR 10 plus compatibility, and colours can be extremely realistic depending on the colour profile you select in the colour settings.

The S22 Ultra also features a class-leading maximum brightness of 500 nits, which increases to about 830 nits when the additional brightness option is enabled. But that’s not all; enabling auto brightness mode gives you an even bigger boost.

It recorded a maximum brightness of over 1250 nits, which is insane. Additionally, when auto brightness mode is enabled, a new function called vision booster adjusts the contrast of the screen based on ambient light to improve legibility in the sun.

Just beneath the screen is an ultrasonic fingerprint reader that wakes up and unlocks the phone for music playback in a quick and responsive manner. The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra boasts two stereo speakers, with the earpiece serving as the second. The speakers received a respectable rating on our loudness charts, although they’re a little quieter than last year’s model, and we’ve heard stronger low-end from the competition.

Although storage isn’t extendable via MICROSD, you can get up to a terabyte of on-board storage if you need it. The S22 Ultra’s user interface is Samsung’s one UI 4.1, which is based on Android 12. Aside from the stylus-based capabilities, the UI is identical to that found on the Samsung Galaxy S22 and S22 plus.

Of course, one thing to remember is Samsung’s software support, which includes four generations of Android and one UI update, as well as five years of security patches. A few new features, such as expanded functionality and widget support, are also included in the interface.

The previous generation is tough to beat and in benchmarks the improvements compared to the s21 Ultra are modest. Powering the S22 Ultra is a 5000 mah power battery like last year’s model but battery life scores are a little lower this time around with an endurance rating of 108 hours in our tests still that’s not too shabby charging is.

Though the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra supports up to 45 watt fast charging, we won’t be able to charge the phone any quicker than with a 25 watt adapter. Samsung will release a new 45 watt charger, but given on the specs and information thus far, we don’t anticipate it to charge the phone any faster.

Even in portrait mode, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra produces excellent pictures. Portraits may be shot with either the primary or three times telephoto lens, and you’ll get superb subject separation and a very natural-looking defocus backdrop. Photos taken with the ten times telephoto offer decent detail levels, strong contrast, and colours.

photos from the main cam are impressive with an excellent level of detail and well-preserved colours you also get nicely contained highlights and developed shadows.  There’s also a specific night mode that amps up the processing even more.

As a result, the illumination appears brighter and warmer, and there is more sharpness and less noise. Though the Ultra wide cam will use the auto night mode in dark situations, the effect on dynamic range is minimal.  Shots are pretty good; they have very good detail, wide dynamic range, and vibrant colours.

There is some visible noise, but turning on full night mode cleans up that noise and brightens up and restores the detail in the shadows. When using the three times telephoto lens and the auto night mode, you’ll get decent results, but they’ll be on the soft side. Toggling the full night mode is well worth it.

At 10 times magnification, the picture is substantially clearer, and shadows get a great boost. With auto night mode on, the photos seem okay but are soft and have some noise patches. Dedicated night mode improves the sharpness, noise levels, and shadow detail. Selfies are captured with a 40 megapixel front-facing camera that outputs 10 megapixels. These are excellent, with plenty of detail, accurate colours, and a wide dynamic range, plus the camera features autofocus, ensuring that your selfies are sharp.

With all of its cameras, it can capture video in up to 4k at 60 frames per second, as well as 8k at 24 frames per second with the main one. Starting with 4k footage from the main cam, you can see a lot of clarity, realistic colours, and an excellent dynamic range. On paper, 8k footage appears to have more detail than 4k footage, but it’s also softer, with some obvious artefacts, and the clips take up a lot more space. The Ultra wide cam’s 4k footage is detailed and has a large dynamic range. Three times zoomed film is sharp and detailed with good dynamic range and spot-on colours three times zoomed footage is sharp and detailed with excellent dynamic range and spot-on colours.

The Galaxy S22 Ultra features a design that is distinct from the rest of the s-series; it is bigger and heavier, and cameras show from the back rather than being housed in a camera bump. Additionally, the Ultra has a flat back top and bottom, similar to the Galaxy Note.

The next thing to mention right away is that Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra phone has an upcharge to get more storage and RAM, whereas before Notes used to come with you know the 256GB 12GB.

I know they want to name it the S series, but this is for Note users. The S22 ultra does not have expandable memory, so you’ll have to spend more to acquire it. As a result, if you want more RAM, you’ll have to pay more.

The build, the weight of this phone, first and foremost, this phone does weigh 228 grammes, which is quite heavy, but it has a nice balance, just because it feels a little top heavy, but it felt pretty well balanced for its size. It feels fantastic on the rectangle design for this mobile specifically because the S Pen unit is inside of the body itself and this aspect ratio feels really good and wide for writing your notes down and the handset just feels good for this if you’re into the curved display you’ll surely love this one I don’t mind it but again i’d like to see a little bit of a change design in a future phone.

I did get a wrinkle scratch on the display so I did put a screen protector on it because these screens are so sensitive these days i’d recommend just putting a screen protector on it right out of the box I also dropped this thing while cycling to get some photos and I damaged the SVU cover, so, get yourself a case guys you don’t want to mess up or dazzle.

On the whole, I like the design, and the more time I’ve spent with it, the more I think it feels nice and premium, and it feels very competitive with the best phones on the market. Now, they did talk about some armour shield and how this is just much more durable than before, and stuff like that, but it’s ip68, so you know you have a tougher drop protection, and the phone is beautiful, but is this phone right here the most beautiful phone out there, and I would say
